Greenwich

One of the best places to live.

Welcome to Greenwich

An artsy and vibrant village along the Gold Coast of Connecticut.

This little corner of Fairfield County, Connecticut, is a dream spot for nature lovers, history buffs, shoppers, and commuters. Featuring eight small and diverse villages, Greenwich, Connecticut, mixes a high-end lifestyle of abundant downtown shops with generous parks and green spaces for outdoor recreation. New York City is just an hour away by train, and larger cities like New Haven and Bridgeport are minutes away by car. Greenwich was named one of the
best places to live in Connecticut and offers stunning views of nature, pristine beaches, and family-friendly activities.

Greenwich has a deep connection to art history — the area was home to the Rockefeller and Gimbel families, and the neighborhood of Cos Cob began as an Impressionist art colony in the early 1900s. There are several museums showcasing art throughout the years in Greenwich, and residents are committed to providing excellent art educational opportunities for the community.

What to Love

 • The natural wonder of all four seasons, especially autumn
 • The proximity to New York City, New Haven, and Bridgeport
 • Rich cultural and historical experiences at the Greenwich Historical Society and the Bruce Museum.

Local Lifestyle

Residents of Greenwich enjoy the best of both worlds: from upscale shopping and dining experiences in a bustling downtown district to a nature lover’s paradise in the deep woods or sprawling beaches. Stroll the cobblestone streets to browse for gifts and discover historical spots that pre-date the American Revolution.

Young families, students, and retirees love calling Greenwich home and appreciate the strong community ties of their individual neighborhoods. Choose to live in Central Greenwich, Cos Cob, Old Greenwich, Riverside, Backcountry, Byram, Glenville, or North Mianus — each comes with its own unique flair and diverse perspectives.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

Exceptional dining options in Greenwich span all eight neighborhoods. A local favorite is
Miku Sushi, which made the Best of Greenwich list in 2020. Miku, which translates to “beautiful moment,” offers traditional Japanese cuisine in a chic, modern atmosphere. Menu items include dishes from the world-famous Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, and the restaurant offers frequent guest chef appearances, an extensive whiskey list, and sake tastings.

For a casual and unique spot, visit The Drawing Room, a quaint cafe and tea room complete with an art gallery and boutique. Owners Michael and Kenleigh Larock wanted to bring their favorite things to Greenwich — dining, entertaining, and art — so they opened The Drawing Room in 2004. The cafe features menu items like scones with fresh clotted cream and raspberry jam, an afternoon tea selection, and small sandwiches, salads, and soup options for lunch.

For seasonal Mediterranean cuisine, visit the stunning hotel restaurant
l’escale, located at the Delamar Greenwich Harbor Hotel. Featuring 200-year-old stone terra cotta tile and a beautiful wood-burning fireplace, l’escale is the ideal spot for an upscale evening or a romantic date night. The restaurant’s intimate decor and waterfront views are merely the start to an excellent experience. Choose from breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner options to discover French-inspired dishes and a comprehensive and elegant wine list.

Shopping in Greenwich is a luxurious experience. The coveted shopping district, located in downtown Greenwich, offers plenty of opportunities to browse dozens of independent boutiques and name-brand designer stores. For personalized service and quality materials, visit
Richards, an upscale department store for men and women specializing in tailored clothes, reliable customer service, and a mission to “make you look good and feel good.” Richards offers fittings, personalized style advisors, and in-store trunk shows to highlight the latest trends.

Another shop downtown that can’t be missed is Hoaglands, a high-end home goods store you’ll never get tired of browsing. Wander through the aisles of vibrant plates and eclectic stoneware and hunt for keepsakes for your registry. Hoaglands has been a popular Greenwich destination for luxury gifts since 1937.

“Do good while doing business” is the motto of Splurge Gifts, one of the best shops in Greenwich. Known for being more than just a retail store, Splurge supports the local community by donating Easter baskets to Kids in Crisis and gathering hundreds of canned goods each year for the Neighbor to Neighbor program. Owner Sonia Malloy has built Splurge to be one of the most talked-about and trusted shops in Greenwich since 2007. The shop features Greenwich-themed gifts, personalized items, home goods, and clothes with a wide range of price points. You don’t need to spend a lot to enjoy Splurge!

Things To Do

Greenwich is all about community. Residents love supporting their local businesses and nonprofits by finding fun and entertaining ways to give back. Two of their yearly festivals highlight the area’s rich culinary landscape and diverse flavors by celebrating exceptional restaurants, fine wines, and live music: the
Greenwich Wine + Food Festival and Greenwich Town Party. Held annually, these festivals provide Greenwich residents with the ultimate entertainment experience, all while giving back to local charity organizations.

The Greenwich International Film Festival features more than 70 events, from film screenings to workshops, educational panels, and networking parties for filmmakers and film lovers. GIFF focuses on supporting and empowering the voices of filmmakers by showcasing their work and providing financial awards, and educating the community on important social issues. The festival attracts over 10,000 visitors and is held yearly in June, though several small-scale events also take place throughout the year.

Schools

Greenwich has several high-achieving public and private schools in the area. These include:

 • Glenville School, a public school for grades K-5
 • Eagle Hill School, an independent school for grades K-8 that focuses on supporting students with language-based learning differences
 • Greenwich High School, a nationally ranked public school for grades 9-12
